Résumé anglais |
Cimino's films take up several motifs and forms borrowed from Western movies as they describe the primarily violent confrontation between ethnic and/or social communities — as best exemplified and thematized both by the history of the Far West and by the Vietnam War. Cimino describes communities as closed, hermetic circles forbidding any linear trajectory. The outsider, first othered, may be taken up again by the communal circle, as a mirror image, a double and an object of desire, but only through a frontal, deadly duel.
