The relationship between education and health, which was first established by 19th century social reformers and sanitarians, has received renewed attention in recent years. School health services are no longer focused on communicable disease control but aim to address diverse health problems which prevent a growing number of students from learning. Innovative projects such as school-based health centers show the importance of the cooperation between education and health professionals, but the full potential of school health services has yet to be realized.
