Résumé anglais |
During the Second Empire, certain moderate Republicans from France, Belgium and Switzerland reached American soil following Napoleon III's Coup d'Etat. Many arrived in New York City, where they published in French a number of newspapers, two of which are the subject of study. The first, Le Républicain, expressed its protest against the Empire ; the second, Le Messager Franco-Américain, took a greater interest in American politics, motived by the impact of the Civil War. Their joint purpose was to have the French voice heard throughout the United States. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
