L'augmentation du nombre de projets de numérisation d'archives sur le continent africain depuis une vingtaine d'années, généralement financés par des institutions du Nord global et mis en œuvre par des organisations du Sud global, semble avoir renforcé plutôt que remis en cause les asymétries structurelles des projets Nord/Sud et contribué à reproduire des conflits épistémologiques et des tensions autour de la propriété et de l'usage des archives. Cette conversation entre deux chercheurs propose une évaluation critique et réflexive d'une série de projets de numérisation d'archives privées de militants radicaux nigérians dans lesquels ils ont été impliqués, et qui ont été financés par des institutions françaises. En retraçant les différentes étapes de ces projets et en s'interrogeant sur les conflits et divergences sous-jacents, tous deux interrogent entre autres la violence et les inégalités structurelles du processus d'archivage numérique dans le cadre de collaborations transnationales, les conflits épistémologiques qui surgissent souvent autour des archives ainsi que les défis et implications à long terme de leur conservation, accessibilité et propriété. The growing number of digitisation projects of archives in Africa over the past two decades, typically funded by institutions from the Global North and implemented by local organisations, appears to have reinforced rather than challenged the structural asymmetries of North/South projects. It has largely contributed to the reproduction of epistemological conflicts and tensions surrounding the ownership and uses of archives. This conversation between two researchers offers a critical and reflective assessment of a series of digitisation projects of private archives of Nigerian radical activists, in which the researchers were involved and which were financed by French institutions. By retracing the various stages of these projects and examining underlying conflicts and divergences, the aim is to interrogate, among other things, the violence and structural inequalities of the digital archiving process within the context of transnational collaborations. The conversation also explores the epistemological conflicts that often arise around archives, along with their long-term challenges and implications for preservation, accessibility, and ownership.
