Les sociétés tabacoles d'Etat à Madagascar et leur restructuration sous la direction du Groupe Bolloré en une société d'Etat, l'OFMATA, ont connu une histoire mouvementée entre 1920 et 1995, liée aux problèmes économiques nationaux (foncier, commercialisation) et à l'évolution des techniques culturales et de séchage des variétés de tabac cultivées. Dans les régions des baiboho du centre-ouest (Betsiriry) et du nord-ouest (Mampikony, Port-Bergé), l'article étudie en détail ces évolutions techniques, sociales et économiques. Analysis of the Malagasy Tobacco Production and Selling System ; From a Fully State Owned Organization to a Partially Owned Company. The tobacco subsi¬ diaries of the Madagascar Government and their restructuring into a government organization, OFMATA, under the guidance of the Bollore group, had experienced a hectic history between 1920 and 1995 due to national economic problems (land, sel¬ ling), the change in cultural factors, and also in the drying of the various types of tabacco grown. Considering the regions of the baiboho in the Center-West, Betsiriry, and Northwest, Mampikony and PortBergé, this article studies the changes in cultural and technological factors, and the social and economic problems involved.
