Les crises climatique et structurelle que connaissent actuellement les pays du Sahel ont totalement bouleversé les modes traditionnels d'occupation de l'espace. La disparition progressive du nomadisme, les vagues de sédentarisation et la déforestation pour pratiquer l'agriculture de décrue ou construire de nouveaux villages ont profondément modifié l'exploitation et la gestion des espaces naturels. Trois exemples pris dans le Tagant (Mauritanie) montrent que la désertification est un phénomène ancien et souvent complexe à gérer. Moudjeria, Boumdeïd et la Tâmoûrt En Na'âj nous permettent de suivre l'évolution du problème au cours du siècle. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |

Nomadic Activity and Population Settlement in the Region of Tagant, Mauritania. The climate and structural crises that the countries of the Sahel are presently experiencing have totally upset the traditional use of the land. The progressive disappearance of nomadic activity, the massive settlement of formerly wandering population groups, and land clearing for agricultural purposes or for the construction of new villages have significantly altered the use and management of natural resources and space. Three examples drawn from the Tagant region of Mauritania -Moudjeria, Boumdeïd and Tâmoûrt en Na'âj-show us that desertification is an old phenomenon and one that is difficult to control.
