Pour étudier la technique, il convient de reprendre la suggestion de Braudel et d'associer recherche historique et recherche sociologique. Seule la première peut permettre de dégager ces mouvements de longue durée si importants pour analyser l'évolution de la technique et du social. Ces deux évolutions doivent être étudiées simultanément. Il convient en effet d'éviter la séparation traditionnelle entre histoire des techniques et histoire des usages. To study technique, it is useful to recall Braudel's suggestion and to blend historial and sociological research. Only the first permits one to extricate movements of long duration that are so important for the analysis of the evolution of the technical and the social. These two evolutions must be studied simultaneously. In fact, it is important to avoid the traditional separation between the history of technologies and the history of their uses.
