En 2015, le pape François présente l'« écologie intégrale » dans l'encyclique Laudato si', qui marque une étape dans l'institutionnalisation de l'écologie dans le catholicisme. Chez les jeunes catholiques écologistes interrogés, ce texte est la source d'une revitalisation religieuse. Cette dernière se manifeste dans le rapport à soi, mais aussi dans le rapport aux autres (amis, famille, militants écologistes et catholiques). Souhaitant œuvrer à l'écologisation de l'Église, dans le contexte d'un catholicisme français en déclin démographique, les enquêtés peuvent s'engager dans l'institution religieuse, tout en s'en autonomisant souvent. In 2015, Pope Francis introduced “integral ecology” in the encyclical Laudato si', marking a milestone in the institutionalization of ecology within Catholicism. For the young Catholic environmentalists interviewed here, this papal text is the source of a religious revitalization. This is evident not only in their relationship with the self, but also with others (friends, family, environmental activists, and Catholics). By seeking to work towards the ecologization of the Church, in the context of the demographic decline in French Catholicism, the respondents are able commit themselves to the religious institution, while also maintaining a degree of autonomy from it.
