Résumé anglais Over the past decades, plastic has revolutionized many industries due to its versatility and unique properties. However, the management of plastic waste poses a major challenge to the environment, requiring innovative and sustainable solutions. Companies, such as Eastman, that have sustainability at the core of their innovation strategy are investing in advanced recycling technologies to address this challenge. Eastman has developed chemical recycling technologies, such as the Polyester Renewal Technology (PRT) and Carbon Renewal Technology (CRT), which convert plastic waste into their basic molecules and repolymerize them into new high-quality products. These technologies offer an infinite material loop and help reduce the carbon footprint of plastic while reducing dependence on virgin fossil resources. The transition to a circular economy for plastics requires collaboration among different stakeholders, including governments, businesses, consumers, and waste management facilities. It is important to promote policies and regulations that foster innovation in plastic recycling and adopt principles such as material-to-material recycling and complementarity between chemical and mechanical recycling.
