L'article décrit et analyse le cours d'activité d'une chercheuse lors de l'investigation sur le terrain de l'expérience d'étudiants dans un environnement EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction). En s'inscrivant dans une démarche ethnographique en analyse de l'activité sur un temps long, l'objectif de la chercheuse était de s'acculturer et de se familiariser avec les étudiants pour documenter et analyser leur expérience en formation. La relation de proximité créée avec les étudiants et leurs intérêts pour l'enquête ont conduit la chercheuse à faire preuve d'inventivité méthodologique pour répondre aux caractéristiques du terrain. La méthode développée tout au long de la recherche est interprétée dans cet article comme émergeant du couplage de l'activité de chercheuse avec ce que font les étudiants engagés dans leur environnement d'apprentissage. This article describes and analyses the course of a researcher's activity during a field investigation into the experience of students in an EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) environment. By adopting an ethnographic approach to analysing activity over a long period of time, the researcher's aim was to acculturate and familiarise herself with the students in order to document and analyse their learning experience. The close relationship created with the students and their interest in the survey led the researcher to be methodologically inventive in order to respond to the characteristics of the field. The method developed throughout the research is interpreted in this article as emerging from the coupling of the researcher's activity with what the students do in their learning environment.
