RTE, le gestionnaire du réseau électrique à haute tension français, vient de publier une grande étude prospective autour de plusieurs scénarios de consommation et de production. Tous prévoient que la géographie de l'électricité sera profondément modifiée en 2050, avec une part plus importante d'ENR, une production qui variera selon la force du vent et l'ensoleillement et l'électrification des grands sites industriels. Il va falloir à la fois régénérer un réseau construit pour l'essentiel dans les années 1950-1970, le rendre résilient aux nouvelles conditions climatiques et raccorder les nouveaux sites de production (éolien en mer et terrestre, photovoltaïque) et de consommation. RTE, the manager of the French high-voltage grid, has just published a major prospective study on various consumption and production scenarios. All of them predict that the geography of electricity consumption and production will change fundamentally by 2050, with a greater share of ENR, production that will vary according to wind strength and solar radiation, and the electrification of large industrial sites. It will therefore be necessary to renew a grid that was mainly built in the 1950s-1970s, to adapt it to the new climatic conditions and to connect new production sites (offshore and onshore wind power, photovoltaics) and consumption sites. Accelerating the energy transition therefore requires considerable investment (100 billion euros in fifteen years) and the construction of thousands of kilometers of additional high-voltage lines (from a few thousand to 30,000).
