À l'heure de la mondialisation, de l'abolition des frontières et de la création d'ensembles politiques, géostratégiques et économiques qui transcendent toute logique culturelle ou historique, le Commonwealth a-t-il encore un rôle à jouer ? En 2005, Krishnan Srinivasan lance un pavé dans la marre : à moins d'une reprise de leadership par le Royaume-Uni, l'avenir de l'Institution ne peut qu'être sombre. Les critiques ont reproché à cet ouvrage d'être trop centré sur le cœur de l'ancien Empire. Ils suggèrent qu'il faut regarder la question à partir d'une lunette autre. L'analyse ici proposée offre justement de ce faire, en mettant au cœur des questions posées, le Canada, contributeur de la première heure sinon instigateur de l'Institution. In this age of globalisation, the abolition of borders and the creation of political, geostrategic and economic groups which transcend any cultural or historic logic, does the Commonwealth still have a role to play? In 2005, Krishnan Srinivasan set the cat among the pigeons: unless its leadership was revived by the United Kingdom, the future of the Institution could only be bleak. Critics reproached this publication for focusing too greatly on the core of the former Empire. They suggested that the question should be considered from another angle. The analysis proposed here offers just that, by placing Canada at the centre of its questions, as the country which contributed to the Institution from the outset, or might even have been its instigator.
