With the advent of digital social networks, we once again need to review documentary networks, pioneers in this form of work organization. But what has happened to these networks? What vision and which projects unite information professionals today in the context of the digital environment that has shaken up information itself, its means of production, dissemination and processing, its professional limits and user practices? We look at the value today of documentary networks in a variety of contexts and key historical milestones. Governance is at the heart of recognition and survival of these networks in an increasingly global, competitive and unstable environment. How does the digital context modify such networks? Do networks become obsolete when we redefine its limits? Does the digital environment impose new objectives and missions in an unprecedented regime of document production and circulation?

Networking has always been a feature of information management. In the past the crucial societal, economic and political stakes involved brought forth a variety of national and international projects. So what is new here is not the geographical dimensions but the change in the perimeters of information itself, its processing tools and user practices. It's a multidimensional, multilayered playoff between tradition and novelty, represented by a variety of initiatives described here.

What exactly are these documentary networks so often mentioned? Are they still of any use today? How are they managed? A concept to (re)discover, presented according to function, organizations that use them and type of architecture.

It's a common problem: networks that become obsolete because they were not designed to drive collective projects and had to change. INRA came up with hubs to favor the development of professional skills and the emergence of new services that represent authentic instruments of professional promotion. The FufurIST project will no doubt be a source of inspiration.

Documents have acquired a new status, as we move into a different, complex economy dominated by free offers. If we don't even know how professionals will be paid, can there be any value in mediation? What kind of future is in store for documentary networks in an environment where value is redistributed and skills are changing to meet new challenges?

Can information resources in Arabic available on the Internet meet the expectations of young people for information and culture? This study, based on the results of a survey of young Lebanese students, describes the cultural practices of young Lebanese, especially as regards reading and using the Internet. The author looks at types of information, sites and digital documents available to those who can read only Arabic. What is their content and form? How accessible, attractive, dynamic and interactive is digital information - whether scientific or cultural - so that they are drawn to reading in Arabic and keeping themselves informed?
