The housing issue results in a widespread and growing social insecurity in terms of living conditions, social protection tools, and perspectives. These matters do not concern the poorest households specifically : they encounter new audiences which used to be protected by their professional status or resources. Economic and housing crises now combine with new societal trends, but the measures deployed appear to be limited or inadequate.

Marital separations, single parenting situations or blended families are more and more frequent and alter residential itineraries. However, these fundamental changes in the family pattern are rarely taken into account by housing public policies, regarding financial aid as well as urban planning strategies.

Employment difficulties are another iconic illustration of the way the housing crisis extends its ramifications beyond the single issue of habitat. That is why they are a social and economic challenge at the same time : firstly because major financial flows are handled into the housing sector and do not generate other economic benefits, and secondly, because increasingly precarious residential trajectories have negative effects on employment.
