    • A theoretical approach of the flâneur and the sensitive perception of the metropolis - Fabio La Rocca p. 9-17 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
Our intention is to show, from its origins, how the flâneur is a theoretical path to understanding the metropolis and its various details. By immersing in the street, we are faced with a way to comprehend and gain knowledge of the urban space where we can find a stimulation of senses in the process of construction of ambiances. We can observe how the flâneur participates in the construction of a sensitive form that we can understand as technique, tactic and mode to operate a deep perception of the metropolis and its spaces. How has the figure of the flâneur been able to evolve? Are there some significant particularities that can define the contemporary flâneur and the actual urban experience? The pregnancy of this figure that we must note is a method: the perception and capture of the ambiances is a way to understand and deeply discover the significant fragments of the metropolis.
    • “Walking through Tokyo”: Wackwitz and the liminal spaces of postmodern everyday life - Changnam Lee p. 19-30 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
This study critically examines the activities and views of the transnational flaneur Stephan Wackwitz, which are described in his essay collection Tokyo. It particularly focuses on the descriptions of liminal spaces, such as streets, shopping malls, game salons, railway stations, and airports, where the author encounters social, cultural, and ethnic boundaries and realizes that the modern hierarchy of the real and virtual is upside down, taboo and normal displaced, and familiar and foreign mixed. This “orderly disorder” is analyzed in this study as a temporary tension that occurs during globalization at the thresholds of the liminal spaces of postmodern everyday life.
As Walter Benjamin astutely observes in the Arcades Project and elsewhere, one of the earliest incarnations of the flâneur is to be found in the figure of the urban detective as first conceived in the writings of Edgar Allen Poe and Eugene Sue. In this paper I reflect upon this identification and briefly consider the multiple incarnations of the flâneur and the significance of transnational flânerie in the contemporary cultural and political context. Taking the Danish-Swedish-German neo-noir television series The Bridge (Bron / Broen) as an exemplary contemporary instance of the ‘transnational urban detective,' I consider three kinds of transationalism: a) how noir itself constitutes a transitional genre, migrating across borders; b) how media products / formats can be embedded, dis-embedded and re-embedded in new and different transnational contexts as part of the global culture industry; c) how noir detectives weave back and forth across and between cities in neighbouring countries as part of their investigations.I conclude with reflections on how the bridge itself – the very symbol of transnationalism – forms a marginal and liminal site, a “non place” and threshold or in-between space (Siegfried Kracauer's Zwischenräume), and in so doing provides the transitional flaneur-as-detective not so much with a home but a haunt, a locus of habitual return and inescapable melancholy.
    • The turbulence of the strollers, between erotism and politics - Jieun Shin p. 43-51 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
This article suggests that the urban stroller shows a desire of nomadism which still firmly persists in our postmodern society. It also aims to analyze how disordered strollers are transformed into an organized force when they assemble through circular movement. The power of assembled strollers activates (re)organization as well as social movements. It is clear that anomy and excitement are thus solid foundations of a new process of social structuration. It allows the possibility of a critique of the theories of collective behavior and crowds, such as Le Bon's theory of contagion, and to invent new theories and expressions that are better fitted to explain the possibility of social explosions in postmodern societies. The eros effect is obvious in an assembly of strollers, e.g. flashmobs. It questions the definitive division between politics and erotic, labor and passion.
    • How They Become Spectral Flâneurs: Walking the City Haunting the Cinema in Kim Ki-Duk's 3-Iron - Seongho Yoon p. 53-62 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
This article examines Kim Ki-duk's 2004 film, 3-Iron through the lens of spectral flânerie. Each of his films evinces a disjuncture in the reception of the controversial director at home and abroad – the bind Kim gets caught in as a filmmaker who has garnered accolades and moderate box office successes overseas while failing time and again to appeal to local critics and audiences. Interestingly, this predicament of Kim is in the manner of palimpsest aligned with the ways in which he makes films at a tangent to the film industry he inhabits like a ghost and he makes the spectral possible in a way that only a spectral flâneur-character can embody in his eleventh film 3-Iron. A space opened up by this flâneur enables Kim to operate both within and astride the cracks of the film industry. The spectral flâneur-character comes to stand in for Kim and 3-Iron becomes a bizarre but ultimately compelling allegory of the ghost-like director who has made a film about ghosts.
    • The flâneuse and the landscape of colonial Seoul in the 1920-30s - Jiyoung Suh p. 63-72 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
This article pays attention to the women who emerged in the public sector as a stroller or consumer or worker in pursuit of being part of urban culture 1920-30s Korea. Particularly, I will examine the promenade of those female figures that entails a new subjectivity, by using the term “flâneuse,” which is the female equivalent of the “flâneur.” I analyze the representations of the “flâneuse” in literary works, films, and the mass media in association with the iconography of “Modern Girl” in 1920-30s' Korea. By doing this, I will historicize the presence of the “flâneuse” in colonial Korea that had intermingled the images of the classed, gendered, racial Others with an agent of gaze, consumption, and urban pleasure.
    • Persona. Inquiries on the self in the representation of metropolis between XIX and XX centuries - Antonio Rafele p. 73-86 accès libre avec résumé avec résumé en anglais
This paper aims at investigating the textual relations that link the thoughts of Walter Benjamin (The Arcades Project) and Simmel (The Metropolis and Mental Life and The Philosophy of Money) in a common reflection on the self in the context of metropolis. The paper builds-up a constellation of terms (perception, myth, habits, distraction, images, discontinuity, consciousness, lifestyle and media), a plot of motifs that composes an organic pattern and provide a problematic image of the self.

Singular cinematographic spaces that the cinema of Kim Ki-duk has explored can be qualified as heterotopic. They are not only grotesque, gloomy and eccentric, but also localizable: they are located in real places of Korea. A notable part of the work of this director consists in locating heterotopias within the Korean society, in employing then them to build its cinematographic spaces, before applying their characteristics to the characters, to the events, even to the imaginaries. Another place, the body, which undergoes all the forms of violence in Kim's films, testifies a mortifying social rigidity. The imaginaries, born mainly from the heterotopic places in the cinema of Kim, challenge at once the Korean society and its typical imaginary.
The introduction of Fantasy and Science fiction in the North Korean and South Korean cinemas came late. This delay, symptom of a major sociological issue, is related to the difficult acclimatization of the traditional imaginary, its rethinking while resonating with foreign influences. In the North, Fantasy appears (with Bulgasari and Hong Kil-dong) only when the regime, concerned with legitimation, wished to position itself as a « magic », supernatural force and to minimize the usual Positivist discourses. In the South, anti-positivism and post-occidentalism have also directed the revival and acclimatization of the traditional fantasy in a series of films of the late 1990's (from Gates of Destiny to Soul Guardian). It was for a new political hegemony stemming from the « economical miracle » to position itself both in front of the West and the history of the country. But the transition to SF films based on techno-scientific imaginary (from Natural City to Snowpiercer) deliberately fuelled by local popular dissatisfactions targeting the new oligarchy has passed the stage of catharsis for passive spectators: they have proved premonitory of the social and political crisis of the winter 2016.
