Aréli, a social landlord of northern France, manages several social residences. These institutions are a specific form of housing with both private apartments and common rooms. They cater for people with difficulties to access independent housing. Interviews were conducted with a hundred current and former Aréli residents. The following topics were discussed : the factors that led the residents to ask for an apartment in a social residence, their opinion concerning housing conditions and social support offered to them, their future prospects, etc. This work then led to the formalization of possible actions for Aréli.
