In 1991, Colombia adopted a new Constitution, which enshrined the multicultural character of the nation and the equality of women and men. This has tended to produce a boundary between social categories that has disadvantages for Indigenous females citizens trying to exercise their rights. To remedy this legislative gap, in 2012, a local association of indigenous women's human rights proposed to strengthen the alliance between the indigenous women of the country in order to formulate a preliminary “shadow report” to present to the United Nations Comittee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CoEDAW). During this collective action, indigenous women tried to raise their sexual and reproductive rights to the level of matters of common interest, the respect for which requires governmental intervention. This article seeks to study the construction of this political position, which affirms the indivisibility of the peoples's free determination and women's liberty to have control over their bodies.
The short war that took place between Peru and Ecuador in 1941 mobilized Peruvian crowds for the defense of the territory and the support of Manuel Prado's government. Its knew how to capitalize on this enthusiasm, by organizing or inspiring an active propaganda campaign through various channels such as patriotic demonstrations, cinema, cultural exhibition, and a memorial. The content of this propaganda at first was oriented to building popular support for the President, the peace process and the fallen soldiers in the war. After the war, it focused on the definitive integration of Amazonia to the Peruvian Territory. In spite of the electoral defeat in 1945 that showed the weakness and criticisms of the government actions, the variety of means and coherence of the message, comparable to the other great powers at that time, invite a rethinking of political Modernity in Peru during the early 1940s.
The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the development of historical climatology in Latin America in an attempt to identify the main perspectives presented by this discipline in the region. It is based on the assumption that this field of study is mainly linked to the discussions of climatology and environmental history. Climate history has been approached in a heterogeneous way in accord with the academic tradition of the country and the theoretical-methodological perspective considered. Nevertheless, there is value in the heterogeneity of Latin American studies of climate. It includes features that express a mestizo academic identity. The varied perspectives created werebased on the idea that each one works by itself coexisting and mixing inside this identity.
The Franco-Bolivian Mission “Palaeoenvironment and Archaeology of the Guaquira –Tiwanaku River” tries to restore the evolution of the landscape in contact with one of the most emblematic cultures of the Andes. The Tiwanakota culture developed on the shores of Lake Titicaca at the end of the second millennium BC and disappears between 1100 and 1200 AD following a drought that would have affected the entire Altiplano. In this essay we present the methodology and the work in progress. It is designed to allow scholars to better understand the interactions between the Tiwanakota culture and the immediate environment surrounding the monumental archaeological site.
The construction of dwellings of varied quality and permanence in close association with specialized ceremonial spaces at both large huaca centers and expansive hillside settlements in the Jequetepeque Valley points to alternate and diverse conceptions of sacred and everyday space in the Moche world. In particular, residential constructions varied according to their degree of permanence and the temporality of domestic occupation. The Jequetepeque data demonstrate that archaeologists must consider the cultural embeddedness of residential practices as well as indigenous conceptions of domestic space. In the end, the domestic realm exhibited formidable diversity among the Moche (and in Andean prehistory in general), both in regards to its cultural construction and in relationship to the social and religious status of its inhabitants.
