    Les bibliothèques universitaires et de grandes écoles sont actuellement confrontées à une sensible évolution de leur environnement de travail. Liée en bonne partie aux mutations technologiques à l'œuvre avec le numérique et Internet, cette évolution n'est pas sans forts impacts sur l'offre et l'organisation de ces établissements. Première étape d'une recherche menée en Suisse romande, cette étude se penche sur les nouvelles modalités de la relation des bibliothèques académiques avec leur environnement (usagers, institution universitaire et partenaires documentaires) pour élaborer un modèle d'analyse stratégique générique pour ces bibliothèques. Avant de définir cette nouvelle posture stratégique fondée sur la diversification, l'intégration, l'interactivité et la réactivité, Florence Muet aborde successivement l'évolution du monde documentaire et celle de l'enseignement supérieur, la diversité des publics des bibliothèques, l'élargissement de l'offre de services, la transversalité et la spécialisation de l'offre documentaire.
    University libraries are facing a significant change in their working environment. This change, largely a consequence of technological transformations associated with the Internet and digital media, has had a major impact on what such libraries can offer and how they are organized. The initial stage of a research project undertaken in French-speaking Switzerland studied the new modes of the relationship between university libraries and their environment, as a basis for a generic model for the libraries to undertake strategic analysis. F. Muet defines this new strategic position based on diversification, integration, interaction and reactivity.

      Over the past few years, the authorities have brought pressure to develop a series of new indicators to assess the performance of research and development in public and private universities, with multiple international rankings of universities and professional journals. Researchers frenetically follow the evolution of their H-Index while university presidents anxiously check their establishment's ranking in the latest Shanghai list. Meanwhile, information professionals are on the frontlines when it comes to providing bibliometric data. Our dossier sums up current thinking about how research indicators are produced and used in public and private organizations. Several examples illustrate the key role of information professionals.
