Jean-Pierre Liégeois : The Birth of Gypsy Power. Gypsies, enclosed in their traditions and in the prejudices constructed around them by those populations among whom they have lived, have always been considered to be incapable of changing. Breaking with this stereotype, gypsy power is organizing on the international scene ; it is serious and has a structure. This is a fundamental change both in gypsy culture and ultimately in the image that others have of it. This article analyzes the social and historical conditions which have permitted this mutation whose outcome will be the recognition of a gypsy personality and culture, in each country as well as on the international scene, or their sure decline.

Jean Yves Martin : Regional and Social Inequalities : Secondary School Education in the Northern Cameroons. This texts attempts to analyze some sociological elements in regional and social inequalities in education and some of their repercussions at the level of social structure. A survey of secondary school students in the Northern Cameroons is used. Three principal conclusions come out: ethnic inequalities in primary and secondary school attendance appear at the beginning of the primary cycle; rather than success, the problem of perseverance in school must be elucidated; social class inequalities are beginning to be produced against the background of presentday educational inequalities of an ethnic nature.
