De l'analyse immanente à l'histoire sociale de la littérature.
La première période de l'après-guerre en Allemagne a vu prédominer l'approche immanente de la littérature et le refus corrélatif de l'histoire. Ce n'est qu'au début des années 60 que des tendances vers une histoire sociale de la littérature ont commencé à s'esquisser. Avec Erich Köhler se développe une approche historico-sociologique cohérente, sensible aux multiples instances de médiation entre littérature et société et plus attentive aux analyses formelles que ne l'est la jeune sociocritique baude-lairienne qui privilégie l'approche politique. Alors que l'approche institutionnelle de Peter Biirger tente de dépasser les analyses centrées sur le concept d'oeuvre particulière, l'école de Constance entend saisir l'historicité de la littérature à travers la réception, réduisant cependant le social à un facteur périphérique. L'histoire sociale en Allemagne tend à se caractériser par la mise en rapport de la littérature avec la formation sociale globale et par la prédominance de la notion de sujet - catégorie centrale de l'herméneutique transcendentale et de la philosophie allemande. From Immanent Analysis to the Social History of Literature.
The early post-war period in Germany saw the predominance of the immanent approach to literature and the corresponding refusal of history. Only in the early 1980s did tendencies towards a social his- tory of literature begin to appear. With Erich Köhler there began to develop a coherent socio-historical approach, sensitive to the multiple levels of mediation between literature and society and more attentive to formal analyses than the new Baudelairean socio-criticism which privileges the political approach. Whereas the institutional approach of Peter Burger tries to move beyond analyses centred on the concept of the individual work, the Konstanz school seeks to grasp the historicity of literature through reception, while reducing the social to a peripheral factor. Social history in Germany tends to be characterized by the interrelating of literature with the overall social formation and the predominance of the notion of the subject - the central category in transcendental hermeneutics and German philosophy.
