LA SOCIÉTÉ SOUS LE VOCABULAIRE: BLANCS, NOIRS ET ÉVOLUÉS DANS L'ANCIEN CONGO BELGE K.-T. étudie dans La Voix du Congolais (journal des Africains dits évolués, au cours des dernières années du Congo belge: 1955-1959), le vocabulaire de trois groupes distincts: Blancs, Noirs et Evolués. En prenant comme terme-clé le mot évolué, il examine les rapports qui ont existé entre ces trois groupes sociaux. Autour du terme blanc se créent deux pôles: un pôle positif présentant le civilisateur et son action humanitaire et un pôle négatif dénonçant les négrophobes et stigmatisant leurs méfaits. En ce qui concerne les termes noir et évolué, on a, d'une part, des expressions qui renvoient à tous les Noirs ou Africains du Congo et, d'autre part, on a un vocabulaire spécifique qui tente de circonscrire le statut de l'évolué en faisant de lui un être spécial, à l'intersection de deux mondes qui semblent s'exclure. SOCIETY BENEATH VOCABULARY: BLANCS, NOIRS AND ÉVOLUÉS IN THE FORMER BELGIAN CONGO K. T. studies the vocabulary of three distinct groups : White, Black and « Evolués », in the Voix du Congolais (a publication of the so called «évolués» Africains, during the last years of the belgian rule in the Congo: 1955-1959). Taking the word évolué as the key-word, K.T. studies the relationship which existed between the three social-groups. Two poles appear with the word blanc as their centre : a positive one stressing the white's function as a civilisateur and his humanitarian action and a negative pole exposing the negrophobes and edicting their evil deeds. As far as the words noir and évolué are concerned, we find on the one hand expressions refering to all the Blacks or Africans of the Congo and on the other hand a specific vocabulary which attempts to delineate the status of the évolué by turning him into a particular beeing at the junction of two worlds which seem to exclude one another.
