L'expérience Thatcher : les ambitions et les faits, par François Bédarida
L'arrivée au pouvoir des conservateurs en 1979 avait fait naître outre-Manche de grands espoirs de renouveau et Mme Thatcher, en lançant une expérience inédite rompant complètement avec la politique de ses prédécesseurs - travaillistes ou conservateurs - avait pour ambition, à partir d'une philosophie politique et économique néo-conservatrice, de redonner un sang neuf au pays. Mais si, après vingt-huit mois de gouvernement, Mme Thatcher a su sur le plan politique affirmer son autorité, elle a subi de graves revers dans sa stratégie économique, échec auquel s'ajoutent les menaces consécutives à la naissance du parti social-démocrate et aux violences de rues de l'été 1981. The Thatcher Experiment: Ambitions and Facts, by François Bédarida
The coming to power of the conservatives in 1979 had given rise accross the Chanel to great hopes of renewal. Mrs. Thatcher in launching a new experiment in complete rupture with the policy of her predecessors - labour or conservative - had the ambition starting, with a neo-conservative economic and political philosophy, to regive new blood to the country. But if, after twenty eight months in power Mrs. Thatcher has succeeded in affirming her authorithy at the political level, she has suffered grave setbacks in her economic strategy, to which one must add, the threats created by the birth of the social-democratic party, and the street violence in the summer 1981.
