Le rejet de l'Occident est une constante du processus révolutionnaire en Iran. S'il a contribué à renforcer l'efficacité mobilisatrice de l'appel identitaire, il a aussi nourri et occulté ses ambiguïtés. La dynamique post-révolutionnaire et particulièrement la lutte pour le contrôle des orientations culturelles engendrent de nouvelles stratégies et de nouveaux « malentendus » identitaires où la référence à l'Occident oscille entre le rejet total et l'ambivalence. L'analyse du rejet de l'Occident en révèle la multifonctionnalité. Elle fait également apparaître les spécificités de la nouvelle gestion de l'identité nationale ainsi que son imbrication dans une rivalité mythique et réelle opposant l'islam à l'Occident. The rejection of the West is a constant in the Iranian revolutionary process. It has contributed to the mobilizing effectiveness of the call for identity, but it has also fed and hidden its ambiguities. The post-revolutionary dynamic and particularly the struggle for the control of the cultural directions breed new strategies and new « misunderstandings » concerning identity, with the reference to the West wavering between total rejection and ambivalence. An analysis of this rejection of thé West reveals its multifunctionality.
