Résumé A large number of election studies have been carried out in recent years in the UK, especially since the 1983 Parliamentary election. These studies are worthy of note for their number, but even more for the renewal to which they testify concerning the methods of electoral analysis : search for criteria other than the sacrosanct class cleavage, new definition of the various socio-economic categories, emphasis on long-term trends, new concem for the geographical and regional dimensions. This renewal must be hailed, even if the variety of the approaches leads to somewhat confusing and sometimes contradictory conclusions.
