Analyser le mythe de « Staline l'humaniste », le rôle de certains intellectuels tels Barbusse, Malraux, Ehrenbourg et Nizan dans sa création et son utilisation à des fins de propagande pendant la campagne électorale de 1935-1936 afin de se concilier les électeurs modérés, les radicaux surtout ainsi qu'une grande partie de l'intelligentsia. Démontrer la nécessité de ce mythe qui contribua à la création d'un front antifasciste, à l'intégration du PCF dans la vie de la nation, à celle de l'URSS dans les relations internationales et à la victoire de la gauche aux législatives de 1936. Fruit d'une campagne publicitaire orchestrée à Moscou mais exécutée sur la scène parisienne, cette nouvelle image de marque trouva sa consécration au Congrès pour la Défense de la culture tenu à Paris en juin, faisant de 1935 une année fondamentale dans la genèse du Front populaire. This article analyses the myth of « Stalin the humanist », the role of intellectuals such as Barbusse, Malraux, Ehrenburg and Nizan in launching it and using it as a propaganda tool during the electoral campaign of 1935-36 to woo moderate voters, especially the radicals and a sizeable part of the intelligentsia. It emphasises the necessity of such a myth, its contribution to the creation of an antifascist front, to the integration of thé French Communist party in thé life of thé nation, to that of thé USSR in international relations and to the electoral victory of the French Left in 1936. This change of public image was the result of a publicity campaign, scripted in Moscow, played out on the Parisian scene, to reach a dramatic climax at the Congress for the Defense of Culture held in Paris in June, thus making 1935 a crucial year in the creation of the Popular Front.
