Résumé The vote as a historic product of magic thinking. Paul Guyonnet. The classic explanatory models setting the analysis of electoral behavior in strategic or ecological terms do not resolve ail the enigmas of voting. The psychologizing conceptions display an excessively radical reductionism of collective action to the individual sphere underestimate the fundamental dimension of the social individual. The more globalising epistemological approach of the social-psychoanalysis paradigm which combines with the sociological approach, and within a problematic of complementarity, the achievements of anthropology and psychoanalysis, leads to an interpretation of voting in the conceptual framework of reflection about primitive thinking. The analysis of the voting act, thus identified as a magie rite, refers to the major proposition that in magie, in linguistics as in politics, it is unconscious ideas that act.
