Boris de Schloezer : Ancient music and modern man.
The modern man who listens to ancient music cannot perceive the same things as a listener of the period when i? was composed, for whom the music of his time had a precise and familiar meaning, since it was the expression of a coherent and structured society. The author examines what we really hear when we listen to music written by and for a society which no longer exists and, finally, how one should regard a society which so willingly accepts works which are becoming more and more foreign to it.
