Colloque sur la musique
- Musique et structures sociales (Sociétés d'Afrique Noire) - André Schaeffner p. 388-395 André Schaeffner : Music and social structures (Societies of Tropical Africa). In African societies, different instruments or orchestras are exclusively reserved for one sex, one special ritual, a religious or political leader, a circumciser or secret societies. A ritual essential to the existence of a society reproduces the society's structure as well as his history. Among the Kissi, apart from physical tests, the initiation appears to be a purely aesthetic apprenticeship ; music integrates each member and indicates his function in society. There is the closest possible link between music and citizenship.
- La musique ancienne et nous - Boris de Schloezer p. 395-398 Boris de Schloezer : Ancient music and modern man. The modern man who listens to ancient music cannot perceive the same things as a listener of the period when i? was composed, for whom the music of his time had a precise and familiar meaning, since it was the expression of a coherent and structured society. The author examines what we really hear when we listen to music written by and for a society which no longer exists and, finally, how one should regard a society which so willingly accepts works which are becoming more and more foreign to it.
- La musique et la Chine ancienne - Marina Scriabine p. 398-406 Marina Scriabine : Music and ancient China. In ancient China, music and rites were closely linked. They corresponded to the philosophical principle of yang and yin. Music, the principle of harmony was played as an exercise in spiritual discipline. The twelve lyu, on which the musical system was based, also had a connection with the weights and measures system and with the divisions of the cosmos. The pentatonic scale reflected man's world; the choice of materials for the instruments had a profound significance and there were rituals governing the number of instruments, the way they were used and placed.
- Musique et structures sociales (Sociétés d'Afrique Noire) - André Schaeffner p. 388-395
- Caractérisation de la perception empathique du choix sociométrique - Marcel M. Coste p. 407-414 Marcel Coste : Characterization of the empathie perception of sociometrie choice. A method based on the theory of information demonstrates how the cohesion-dispersion of sociometrical data can be judged. Applied to the characterization of the empathie perception of interpersonal relations, it shows how discrimination can be linked to correct perception.
- Conditions d'existence d'une presse quotidienne départementale : le cas de La Rochelle - Georges Auclair p. 415-431 Georges Auclair : Necessary conditions to the existence of daily papers in the French departments: the case of La Rochelle. Within the framework of a survey on the relations between press and public, this article deals with) the case of La Rochelle, which has never published a daily paper for any length of time. The reason for the failure of all the attempts made between 1883 and 1939 to set up a daily paper are analyzed by means of documents and interviews (the latter bearing on the present situation). The author concludes with a suggestion as to the relations existing between press and public : the existence of a daily paper in the French departments depends on the relation between social cohesion and the size of the potential public.
- De l'accommodation au vieillissement - André Mathé, Mélinée Agathon p. 432-437 André Mathe, Mélinée Agathon : Adaptation to old age. An article on the sociological aspects of a survey on old age carried out by the Centre de Gérontologie of the Association Claude Bernard among a group of Atlantic coast fishermen. Influenced by Lewin's approach, the authors study two factors which condition adaptation to old age : « isolation » and « feeling of solitude ». The interview dealt mainly with the feeling of participation in society, communication with others, subjective appreciation of state of health. The persons interviewed had all been artisans and thus did not suffer from the lack of adaptation which industrialization brings with it. They were all fairly well adapted : sources of conflict with environment were few and the state of the individual was accepted by himself, his immediate circle and society.
