Résumé anglais Alfred Sauvy : On Maturation. The author stresses the role of time in a number of fields where its importance is easily underestimated if not completely ignored, the neglect of this factor engendering attitudes leading to failure. To support this idea the author gives historical examples of the time of maturation within a group before the adoption of the rational solution. The clear-sighted avant-garde is accused of treason because new ideas can penetrate only if the field is sufficiently prepared. These considerations, true for a social organism, could perhaps also be applied to biological processes of gestation and growth and to artistic creation.
