Résumé anglais Jacques Maitre : The Age for Christian Baptism. Sociology of Catholicism considers the age at which a child is baptised as a particularly significant factor of the psycho-social distance between family and church. On the basis of data relative to various times and locations in France (and in an Italian parish) a tentative is made to adjust a logistic function to the distribution of a specific year and place and adjust to the variations of these functions parameters since the beginning of the XlXth century. This operation supposes that the age be measured on a logarithmic scale. Graphic representation and analytical adjustments are used to suggest and test explanatory hypothesis : m a population of new-born children, baptism spreads from baptised children to those not yet baptised. For a century and a half, the median age itself might follow a law of logistics. The realisation of such a model remains partialy hypothetical until we can have the results of inquiries now being carried out.
