Résumé anglais Reine Goldstein : Types of religious behaviour and social setting in two English catholic parishes. The author tries to establish, on the basis of the main optional religious acts (frequent communion, prayer in church during the week, appartenance to a church organization, and family evening prayer) a graduate scale of religious behaviour, following a typology defined by G. Le Bras, on the basis of compulsory religious obligations. She tries to find eventual matches between the « 24 types of behaviour » apparent through the synoptic analysis of questionnaires filled out by regular church goers and various social settings (occupation, ethnical background, familial status, mode of mariage, conversion). The study of the anomalies noted shows that communion plays the role of a sociological behavioral norm ; the « prayer in church on a week-day », characteristic of religious experience in Westfield, is the discriminating factor between different forms of religious experience corresponding to social groups differentiated mainly by a socio-professional variable.
