Résumé anglais Purushottam Joshi : Comparative study of personality patterns in an urban and an industrial community in Uttar Pradesh (North India). A study of the characteristic patterns of personality as reflected in traditional religious attitudes, caste consciousness and habit system, on the basis of a sampled population of urban and industrial areas. The results of present researches are based on 160 interviews from the village of Binaora in the Sitapur District, and from two factories in Kanpur serving as a control group : rural subjects have comparatively more religious-loaded attitudes than those in urban areas, they also are more bound by tradition, cast-conscious, and concerned by social norms.
