Au cours de la première moitié de l'année 2008, l'Argentine a été le théâtre d'une confrontation difficile entre le gouvernement et les représentants des producteurs de soja du pays. Cet article tente de retracer les origines de ce conflit, liées aux profondes modifications économiques, sociales et environnementales que l'extraordinaire expansion de la production de soja a engendré. Le soja est devenu en moins de vingt ans la principale production agricole et la source majeure d'exportation du pays. Les paysages agricoles traditionnels de la pampa et, plus récemment les forêts du nord du pays, ont été complètement modifiés par l'ensemble des transformations qui ont accompagné ce développement en matière de propriété de la terre, de technologie de production, de stockage et de transport. In the first months of the year 2008, Argentine society was the spectator of a hard clash between the national government and the soybean producers. The explanation of this totally new conflict can be found in the impact that soybean production has had in Argentina: from a very minor agricultural product, in twenty years soybean became the principal one and the main exportation good. This change produced a profound economic, social and environmental impact in the pampas region and later on the forested land of northern Argentina, and it was accompanied by several changes in land tenure, agricultural technology and transportation systems.
