Comment aborder la question de « l'animal modèle pour l'homme » en évitant à la fois de donner du crédit à l'idée de l'exception humaine comme à celle selon laquelle l'homme ne serait qu'un animal comme les autres ? Trois voies, fondées sur le travail de quelques scientifiques, sont explorées. La première redistribue tout autrement la question de l'exception, ce sont les animaux qui sont exceptionnels, ce qui limite fortement la possibilité du modèle. La deuxième envisage, d'un point de vue critique, la question de savoir de qui l'on parle dans les recherches focalisées sur la construction de modèles de compréhension : de l'animal ou de l'homme ? How should the question of “the animal as a model for man” be approached, while avoiding giving credit to both the idea of human Exceptionalism and the idea that man is simply an animal like any other ? Three approaches, based on the research of a number of scientific scholars, are presented here. The first approach reframes the notion of Exceptionalism by stating that in fact animals are exceptional, which sets limits to the very idea of a “model”. The second approach critically questions the notion of who is taken into account in research focusing on models or understanding : is it the animal or is it man ?
