Résumé anglais
Although financial markets have durably calmed down, the economic crisis is not over yet. According to our forecast, growth rates in 2010-2011 should not return to their 2008 level. Unemployment has peaked: its decrease will be slow, and will not occur until 2011. Labour market adjustments and production overcapacities will hinder economic recovery, and affect household income from 2010 on.
One of the main challenges in 2010-2011 will be the tremendous rise of public debts in industrial countries. Due to high levels of unemployment, overcapacities and the looming risk of deflation, an extra stimulation may seem attractive. Yet, a rigorous policy emphasizing the reduction of deficits is likely to prevail, in order to prevent public interest rates from rising in the medium-run. JEL Classification: F01.
