Cet article analyse le rôle des élites kurdes d'Istanbul du début du XXe siècle dans le processus de la formation de l'identité nationale kurde. Ce processus résulte de la crise que traverse l'Empire ottoman et il connaît un développement inégal. Des élites kurdes apportent des réponses visant initialement le renforcement de l'identité ottomane en crise. Les premières publications et associations visant le relèvement des Kurdes par l'éducation voient le jour à Istanbul. Les recherches sur la langue, l'histoire, le pays kurde correspondant à la phase initiale d'un mouvement national aboutissent à la fin de la Première Guerre avec la revendication d'un État kurde indépendant. This article analyzes the role of the Kurdish elites in Istanbul at the beginning of the XXth century in the process of the formation of Kurdish national identity. This process stemmed from the crisis of the Ottoman Empire and developed unevenly. Kurdish elites integrated into Ottoman society and the state initially sought to strengthen the Ottoman identity. The first publications and associations aimed at uplifting the Kurds through education emerged in Istanbul. Research on the Kurdish language, history and land corresponding to the initial phase of a national movement led to the demand for an independent Kurdish state at the end of World War I. However, located far from Kurdistan, the Kurdish elites did not succeed in rallying the Kurdish masses to their project at the time of the dissolution of the Ottoman state.
