Les relations traditionnelles entre la France et la Pologne connurent une nouvelle étape avec l'arrivée du régime communiste, c'est ce que retrace cet article. Après l'introduction, où il est question des négociations que menèrent le général de Gaulle et Staline, en décembre 1944, aboutissant à l'échange de représentants entre le gouvernement provisoire français et le comité polonais de Lublin, l'auteur fait la description des conditions de vie en Pologne, conditions dans lesquelles les représentants français étaient obligés de travailler depuis 1944.
L'article est notamment fondé sur des rapports se trouvant aux archives, récemment ouvertes au public, et rédigés par des Français. Il en résulte un tableau assez complet de l'atmosphère dans laquelle s'établit le régime communiste et des méthodes qu'il employait pour imposer son pouvoir, tableau qui, à beaucoup d'égards, permet de mieux comprendre la situation de la Pologne d'aujourd'hui. De plus, ces rapports font état des mesures qui auraient pu être prises pour éviter la coupure entre la Pologne et l'Occident, en général, et la France en particulier. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |

The establishment of the Communist regime in Poland, and its consequences, as reflected in reports of French diplomatic and consular officials.
Traditional Polish-French relations entered upon a new phase with the setting-up of the Communist regime ; it is with the history of this period that the present article is concerned. After an introduction, which deals with the negotiations between General de Gaulle and Stalin in December 1944, which led to an exchange of representatives between the provisional French government and the Lublin Committee, the author goes on to describe living conditions in Poland, conditions in which the French officials had been obliged to work since 1944.
The article draws particularly on reports in the archives, compiled by French officials, and recently made available to the public. There emerges a fairly comprehensive picture of the atmosphere in which the Communist regime was established, and of the methods it used to impose its power. In many respects, it is a picture which helps towards a better understanding of the situation in present-day Poland. In addition, these reports note the steps which could have been taken to prevent the rupture between Poland and the West in general, and Poland and France in particular.
