À partir d'une étude de cas, le Mall of America (Minnesota), ce texte rend compte d'un processus ayant conduit à intégrer dans la figure du centre commercial le lieu du transport. Après avoir resitué le contexte de création de ce mall et souligné les raisons de la greffe du lieu du transport, l'analyse met en évidence trois facteurs ayant contribué à l'avènement d'un pôle Mall of America. Transport facility and multi-centre development: an American experience A case study, concerning the Mall of America (Minnesota), is used to examine the process that led to the integration of a central transport facility into the plan for a shopping centre. The article first describes the background to the creation of this Mall, then highlights the reasons for grafting the transport facility on to it. Analysis of this case indicates three contributory factors behind the creation of the Mall of America. It brings out the importance of the weight of the political will of the Metropolitan Council to make the transport installations a driving force for multi-centre development.
