L'insurrection armée du 4 février 1992, menée par des officiers subalternes de l'armée de terre vénézuélienne, fonde la révolution bolivarienne. Cet événement se caractérise tant par la nouveauté des protagonistes sur la scène politique que par la manière dont, mis en récit, il est justifié et légitimé a posteriori comme mode d'action politique valide. Cet article part d'une brève chronique de ce coup d'État pour ensuite analyser, d'une part, les outils de justification de la violence insurrectionnelle fournis par certains secteurs de gauche et, d'autre part, la manière dont les commandants rebelles se sont emparés de la figure de Simón Bolívar pour alimenter un projet politique nationaliste et idéologiquement éclectique. À partir d'une révision de sources historiographiques et de documents édités avec l'approbation des protagonistes eux-mêmes, il montre les diverses facettes de cette opération de légitimation ainsi que l'ampleur de la rupture de l'ordre politique. The armed insurrection of February 4, 1992 conducted by low-ranking officers of the Venezuelan Army is the founding event of the Bolivarian Revolution. This event is characterized both by the novelty of its protagonists on the political scene and by the way it was put into narrative and later justified and legitimized as a mode of valid political action. This article begins with a brief chronicle of the takeover and then analyzes, on the one hand, the tools used by some on the Left to justify the insurgent violence and, on the other hand, how rebel commanders have adopted the figure of Simón Bolívar to nourish a nationalist and ideologically eclectic political project. Based on a review of sources and on a historiographical analysis of documents published with the approval of specific protagonists, this work shows the different facets of the operations of legitimation and the magnitude of the rupture of political order.
