Cet article étudie les relations entre l'immigration, la fécondité et la mortalité pour expliquer les changements qui se sont produits et se produiront dans la population des Etats-Unis. L'accent est mis sur le passé récent, la situation actuelle et sur la première moitié du XXIe siècle. On montre que la nation connaîtra des changements majeurs dans sa répartition par âge et sa composition ethnique dans un futur proche, du fait du vieillissement de la génération du baby-boom et du maintien d'une importante immigration latino-américaine et asiatique. This article looks at the relationship among immigration, fertility and mortality to explain the changes that have occured and will continue to occur in the population of the United States. Emphasis centers on the recent past, the present and the first half of the 21st century. It is pointed out that the nation will undergo major changes in its age and ethnic composition in the near future because of the aging of the baby boom generation and the continued high level of immigration from Latin America and Asia.
