L'émigration yougoslave vers certains pays d'Outre Pacifique et Atlantique apparaît, en provenance principalement de la région côtière de la Croatie, dans la première moitié du XIXe siècle.
Elle devient massive à partir de la fin du XIXe siècle et se poursuit jusqu'à très récemment.
Au départ, les principales directions de l'émigration sont les USA, mais aussi certains pays d'Amérique du Sud, notamment l'Argentine, le Brésil et le Chili.

Yugoslavian emigration to certain countries of the Pacific and the Americas began in the first half of the nineteenth century. The emigrants came principally from the coastal region of Croatia.
Emigration took on huge proportions from the end of the ninteenth century onwards and continued until very recently.
Initially, the principal destinations of the emigrants were the USA and certain South American countries, notably Argentina, Brazil and Chili.
