Sur la période 1950-1951, plus de 120 000 Juifs irakiens ont immigré en Israël. La plupart d'entre eux sont venus en avion dans ce qui a été décrit comme le plus grand transfert aéroporté de population de l'histoire. Leur immigration en Israël a marqué la fin d'une des plus anciennes communautés juives et des plus profondément enracinées. During 1950-1951 over 120 000 Iraqi Jews arrived in Israel. Most of them arrived by planes in what has been described as the largest airborne population transfer in history. Their immigration to Israel marked the end of one of the oldest and most deeply rooted Jewish community. In the novels written two decades and more after the exodus, several events stand out a living impression on the history of Iraqi Jews and their emigration to Israel. These events include the struggle between the Jewish establishment, the Communists, and the Zionists in seeking a solution to Jewish survival in Iraq; the emigration to Israel ; the treatment by the Israeli society of the immigrants, and the profound shock of changing one culture to another.
