C. Pradeau — ~~A Study of Dagari Habitat~~. The basic dwelling unit—~~yir~~—consists of fortress-type farms, inhabited by a kin-group whose importance may vary from a nuclear family to a lineage segment. The Dagari village is a loose congeries of those farms, each farm being sur-rounded by its own intensely cultivated house-fields (~~siman~~) which provide the sorghum reserved for brewing beer. The y~~ir~~ remains a collective production and work group despite a modem tendency towards economie individ-ualism. At the village level the ~~yir~~ are related and loosely hierarchized according to the lineage structure, without any real centralisation of authority. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
