Proposé en deux parties, cet article vise à comprendre le processus de radicalisation violente dans des situations de conflit. On cherchera à mettre en avant les déterminismes de l'engagement individuel dans l'activisme à haut risque, complété par une étude des incitations sélectives à l'entrée dans une carrière violente. C'est ensuite la question des encouragements cognitifs à la radicalisation qui est posée à travers le rôle clef de l'idéologie et de sa traduction émotionnelle et des facteurs de socialisation à la violence qui familiarisent l'acteur et parfois même le contraignent à l'engagement radical. La suite de cet article – publié dans le prochain numéro – s'interrogera sur la notion de carrière violente, sur le poids des opportunités politiques d'action et sur les logiques d'organisation qui président au choix de l'engagement, avant de proposer une synthèse sous la forme d'un modèle schématisé. Presented in two parts, this article aims to understand the violent hardening process in conflict situations. We first seek to put forward the determinisms of personal commitment in high-risk activism. This demonstration is subsequently complemented by a study of selective incentives at the outset of a violent career. We then turn to the question of cognitive encouragements to violent radicalisation through the leading role played by the ideology and its emotional translation, and also through the socialization factors to violence that familiarize the individual with violence and sometimes compel him to the radical commitment. The continuation of this article, in the next issue, will investigate the notion of violence as a career, as well as the weight of political appropriateness of action, and lastly the logics of organization that govern the choice of the commitment, before proposing a synthesis in the form of a schematised model.
