L'ouverture du Xinjiang consécutive à la Politique de réforme, puis la chute du rideau de fer au tournant des années 1990, ont généré de nouveaux espaces d'expression et d'action pour l'opposition ouïgoure. Le rétablissement des liens entre les communautés de la diaspora et le Xinjiang, mais aussi l'arrivée de nouveaux militants ont régénéré une scène alors divisée et assoupie. Néanmoins, les évolutions rapides du contexte politique en Chine, en Asie centrale ainsi que le contexte post-11 septembre 2001 vont amener cette scène militante à se recomposer rapidement afin de répondre aux nouvelles contraintes auxquelles elle a dû faire face. The mutations of the Uyghur political scene through the 1990s and the 2000s The opening of Xinjiang following the Policy of Reform and the dismantling of the Iron Curtain at the turn of the 1990s have generated new spaces for expression and political action among Uyghur communities. The restoration of links between diasporic circles and Xinjiang, along with the arrival of new militants, have invigorated an ageing and divided scene. However, the strengthening of the Chinese state's pressure in Xinjiang and Central Asia and the new post-9/11 context have raised new constraints that have accelerated the mutations of anticolonial networks across Xinjiang and the diaspora.
