Les sites de rencontres apparaissent comme un mode de coordination congruent à une société en réseaux où la grandeur des individus est avant tout marquée par leur capacité à se prendre en main et à concevoir leur vie comme un projet. Ces sites posent cependant deux principaux problèmes qu'il est possible d'analyser avec les catégories de l'économie des conventions. Ils impliquent de s'extraire d'une logique calculatoire, alors que le design des sites, comme les systèmes d'appariement qu'ils proposent, invitent à une mise en équivalence et à un traitement en propriétés. Ils conduisent ensuite à renoncer à l'abondance des possibles proposés pour prendre acte du caractère limité de l'attention et laisser s'exprimer différents registres émotionnels. Dating websites seem to be a mode of coordination that matches a networked society where individuals' worth depends above all on the ability to take themselves in hand and to see their life as a project. These sites nevertheless pose two main problems that can be analyzed in terms of the categories of the economy of conventions. They imply the need to avoid a calculative logic, while the design of the websites, like that of the systems for matching up people that they propose, are tailored to the identification of equivalences and the processing of profiles in terms of their properties. They then lead to a renunciation of the abundance of possibilities proposed, to take into account the limited nature of people's attention and to allow different emotional levels to be expressed.
