La reproduction de l'« hégémonie coloniale » est inhérente à l'ontologie de la colonisation, aux yeux des « études postcoloniales ». Pour la sociologie historique, elle participe d'un engendrement contingent : la concaténation du colonial au postcolonial procède moins d'une causalité que du hasard des contextes historiques. La gestion conservatoire de l'esclavagisme, l'itinéraire des anciens combattants, le compromis entre l'islam confrérique et l'État colonial en AOF présentent un tel enchaînement de transactions hégémoniques impériales qui demeurent sous-jacentes à l'État postcolonial. The meandering of colonial hegemony in French-speaking West Africa In the eyes of the « postcolonial studies », the reproduction of colonial hegemony is part and parcel of the ontology of colonisation. As for historical sociology, hegemony is more of a contingent phenomenon : the concatenation of events from colonial to postcolonial has less to do with causality than with random historical contexts. In French West Africa, the cautious nature of the colonial policy on slavery, the itinerary of African veterans, the compromise between sufi Islam and the colonial state are one such set of a chain of imperial hegemonic transactions – and play a founding role for the postcolonial state.
