| Résumé |
Les travaux récents consacrés aux villes d'Afrique Noire tirent leur spécificité des directions de recherche et de la nature des problèmes envisagés. A cet égard, RUFISQUE, par son existence et sa déchéance, illustre l'inadaptation à la réalité des théories où l'espace est conçu comme un «en-soi», et montre au contraire que l'organisation de l'espace procède à la fois de l'interprétation du milieu par une logique économique et de l'évolution des rapports de force inhérents au système social. Créée par la bourgeoisie commerçante qui avait l'initiative dans une conjoncture politique particulière, RUFISQUE, ville de l'arachide, est devenue un non sens dès lors que le Gouvernement colonial a imposé DAKAR comme instrument nouveau. Or cette situation s'est pérennisée après l'Indépendance ; en dépit de sa déchéance économique, RUFISQUE est une ville à forte croissance démographique, ce qui pose à la fois un problème d'aménagement du tissu urbain et de fonction dans la région du Cap Vert. The recent studies concerning the towns of Black Africa owe their specific interest to the trends of research and the nature of the problems under consideration. In this respect, Rufisque is a living example -through its history and decay -of the gap existing between facts and the theories which conceive space as a perse entity ; it is on the contrary an illustration of the fact that the organization of space implies both the interpretation of a natural environment through an economic system, and the evolution of the balance between the terms inherent to the social system. Established by upper-class tradesmen, who had the leadership in a given political context, Rufisque, a town based on the groundnut economy, became a meaningless entity the moment the colonial Government imposed Dakar as a new instrument. These conditions outlived the Independence of the nation. Despite its economic downfall, Rufisque is a town with a high demographic growth rate, which results in a double problem : the remodelling of the urban lay-out and the function of the town within the region of the Cape Verde.
