Centré sur la répression violente des manifestations nationalistes à Casablanca en décembre 1952, l'article analyse comment, dans un contexte de changement social et urbain rapide, les autorités coloniales tentèrent d'endiguer la prolifération des résistances politiques. Il montre, qu'en dépit de l'utilisation illimitée de la violence létale et de la répression judiciaire, les autorités coloniales furent incapables de rétablir l'ordre colonial, confronté à la pluralité du répertoire nationaliste qui défiait le ségrégationnisme urbain censé le contenir. The Impossible Control of a Colonial City ? This article focuses on the violent repression of nationalist demonstrations in Casablanca in December 1952, analysing how, in a context of rapid social and urban change, the colonial authorities attempted to curb the proliferation of political resistance. It shows that, despite the use of unlimited lethal violence and judicial repression, the colonial authorities were unable to re-establish the colonial order in the face of the plurality of the nationalist repertory that defied the urban segregation it was supposed to contain.
