C'est un Irak profondément divisé, théâtre de violences quotidiennes et d'une crise sociale et politique profonde, que les États-Unis ont quitté en décembre 2011. L'un des éléments qui pèsent le plus sur la situation actuelle du pays est la marginalisation des sunnites durant toute l'occupation américaine. Le problème sunnite mine la perspective d'une réconciliation durable et fait surtout resurgir la menace d'une partition du pays, à la fois territoriale et symbolique. The End of the Occupation and the Crisis in Iraq: the Sunnite Keystone The United States withdrew from a profoundly divided Iraq in December 2011, the setting of daily violence and a deep social and political crisis. One factor that has weighed most on the present situation has been the marginalization of Sunnites throughout the US occupation. Indeed, the Sunnite problem undermines prospects for a durable reconciliation and above all raises the threat of a partition, both geographic and symbolic, of the country.
